Marcus Dixon’s work manages to make the tropes of Australian suburbia glamourous. Wild women and drunken men, native flora and fauna; these are the themes of Marcus’s skateboards, t-shirts, hats and even tea towels.
In a sense, Marcus has given Australian skateboarders and street wear aficionados theiridentities back. A kid from Bankstown no longer needs to wear a shirt emblazoned with LA, SF or NYC – now he can wear a magpie nicking off with a woman’s bra. Every young man’s dream…
Dixon’s new exhibition, Date Night will include a handful of large scale illustrative works alongside a bunch of this very ephemera he’s known for.
Date Night by Marcus Dixon is supported by the RVCA Artist Network Program
