Am I the only one on earth that wants Gullwing to start making the SL2002 trucks again? Was it the fact that they didn't turn very well? I would love to see those come back but with improve turning (like Bennett trucks)

Well if they wanted to re-issue them you are correct-they need to make sure they do turn better than the original SL2002's-but nothing can compare to the original vintage Gullwing Split Axle Trucks-they were totally adjustable and you could tune those baby's right in. I wonder if there is an issue with the kingpin bushings or the truck casting itself on the SL2002's? As I said before nothing beats the originals-flat out!
Victor Earhart, grand guru of Sector 9's production crew says it's the bushings. After all, they had the same geometry as the Gullwing Phoenix, which I have on a Warp tail. I too want more, and S-9 is illusive as to the where abouts of Walt T.'s old stash when they bought him out.
Someone out there is sitting on a case of these, and cxould probably buy the rights to make them again. THis time: no black paint.
Agreed-no black paint (I have a set of SL-2002's and had a friend remove the black paint and they look so much cooler in the natural finish) and yes-whoever has those trucks-come on, sell them to us please!
People have commented on the truck geometry being wrong. The axle being forward of the pivot etc. This makes sense as it certainly can't help steering.
However the casting seems to be the biggest culprit. The hangar is clearly VERY badly cast with the bushing seat being veru uneven. As a result the truck can slide across between the bushings a little without turning. This results in leaning the board, nothing happening then the board turning when it decides. Not cool!
But it gets worse, much worse! The pivot is not centrally placed in the hangar. Hense the trucks will always be inclined slightly one way. Check it out SL2002 owners. The axles are not horizontal!
I'm going to file my pivot sdown a bit to try to centralise them. If that doesn't work I give up!
Hey, I had a pair back in 2002, they were dead action, misaligned, badly cast, badly bent axles, nothing like the originals except "roughly similar" in outward appearance as a rough approxamation. The baseplate was mostly the same but not as cleanly cast as the originals from my memory. If the original HP IV(?)had a spherical bearing they'd be could be impressive by todays standards I think. The original split axle hanger was much better aligned, better geometry, both semi-axles lined up with each other. They were OK for cruising around if there was no performance demand, so thus I gave them away as part of a full setup to my friends daughter, so for that use she liked them.

Gullwing must have lost or thrown away the molds or the craftsperson who made them must have died and not passed on what he knew or something. I have NEVER ever seen anyone use the SL2002 at a race, if I did I didn't notice because they sure weren't going fast on those things.

That's my 2 Cents - Paul
Why not just go back and recast the original split-axles and maybe reissue a late 70's truck too?
Mike again: to be quite honest: I find for a reasonable good turning slalom set up, you still can't beat the Tracker race trax "s" and "x" trucks. They come in several widths, and the "hour glass" bushings are very responsive.
I know the SL2002 does NOT turn worth a crap!!! If I want to turn I "turn" (pun intended) to Bennett Truks! The reason for wanting a Gullwing Pheonix truck is really about the asthetice and downright coolness factor. Those split axels just look awsome. I would love to be ableTo have a set without paying $400 on eBay for an original set. I have never ridden a set bit from what I have heard those H.P.G. IV trucks rocked they also look awesome! I am not really I to slalom but if I was I would probably get me a set of those fancy billet trucks.
Yeah you are right and the Tracker Offset Trucks are a great rear truck as well.
Hey Juan: see my comments below!...ASR was uneventful, again. They need to have the Reef girls handing out free cocktails!
I looked at some pics from the show and I agree. It seems to be more of a stroke-fest for old surfers and clothing designers.
You are rignt about the black paint-a friend of mine removed the black paint and then buffed them up and they look like a completely different truck and a lot closer looking to the original Gullwing Phoenix Trucks.t
