I have some terrible news. Peter Wheldrake, the Head Hog of Hogtown Skateboard and Snowboard shop is dead. How this affects me. The father of my teen children and business partner left a space for me to fill up. Im twice as busy but thats ok. I can carry on with his business ventures like they were my own. Nothing changes. Carry on like before.See More

The Evolution of The Skateboard

Trade shows and skateboards could be a bad combination. If it were not for the stoke of the participants, this trade show in NYC would have been a bust. The NYC Longboard Trade Show on Allen St. was held in a store so small they had to limit the number of people allowed in. With 32+ skateboard and accessories manufactures showing goods over a bar table it was shoulder to shoulder all day. By days' end hundreds of people would be sitting outside and in the bar next door. When you go to look at…See More

NYC Longboard Trade Show

Since 1988 I have worked in the skateboard shop. In retail and sporting goods the shops meet the suppliers once a year in person to discuss things. The past few years has been less meetings and more upgrading computer, PDA, tablet, IPOD or Smart Phones. No longer do we need to actually go to see the products at trade shows that companies are selling. We can just get a digital picture, you can almost tell what it looks like. Is that good enough?Twenty years ago we would get a fax and that was…See More

Skateboard Racing

What a great time at Slalom St. Louis. The hosts were great. Thanks so much to The Goad Family, Michelle and Chris, JBH, Ben, and all the rest for making this contest a great event. It was great to meet some new boys who love the cones as well.

The highlights of my trip were, City Museum Ferris Wheel and big slide, Primus, The Gateway Arch, skateboard racing, skateboard jewelry souvenirs made by Goad's friends, the beautiful park setting in which we had the race. The food made by…

Dethklok

Dethklok is my favourite riding music now. The most remarkable thing happened to me last weekend. I did 90 Cones Straight Tight Neat. My time was not the best but at least I am not a burden to Cone Heads of Saint Louis Slalom 2011. I dont want to make a mess, just go and skate a while.

To get through this kind of race course you have to have a fast song in your head. Mine was Dethklok. Turn that on in your head and follow the rhythm of the beat. Make the feet follow the arms. Stay…

Slalom St. Louis

I cant wait to get to this area of USA. Epic Route 66 and the Arch. What a good group they are going to have in this race. I peruse ncdsa.com racer sign up sheets and I get to see some old friends. Hopefully I can race Glenn again. One time in Texas, the wind of God slowed me down to a near stop and he won. I better get training, cuz I know he does.

Lynn and I are bunking up and sharing a car. The contest better be over by 8 pm Sunday May 29 cuz we are going to see Primus at The…

Keyboard Racing

None of that here. Three real races coming up for me in 2011. The final one, The Worlds of Skateboard Slalom in August in Ottawa. The racers sign up list already has my heart racing. Going up against the fastest women in the world can be a tough gig. The smaller races are fun when there are not so many. If you score near the end, the points are fewer. Of course, going up against women half my age and half my size, they will probably be well ahead of me. For women in my age group, I am…
