Chris Yandall Recently passed away.

Ughh, I hate posting mostly about friends who pass away, but here I'm doing it again. Chris Yandall recently passed away. I first knew of him from pictures in the skateboard magazines from the 1970's and like everyone in those mags, he was an influence on me early on. Later as I got to barely know him, I found him to be just plain friendly, silly sometimes,  helpful to others,…See More

Park, Longboarding, Slalom
What year did you begin skating?
1974, maybe earlier.
What's your set-up?
Subsonic Pauliwog model for Tight and Hybrid/General Slalom with a modified RT-X 105mm front, Asphalt Playground Splitfire 105mm in the back, Avalons or Hotspots.

Subsonic Scout model for Giant Slalom, modified RT-X 130mm in front, Eric Walgren modified Seismic 130mm 30 degree truck in back. Usually Grippins or Sunspots.

Comet Proflex Park 36" deck from 2002, Trendependant 159's, Rainskates Tsunami wheels for parks.

Pauliwog's Wides bombtail(think SchmittStix Monty Nolder )deck 10" with17" wheelbase. Presently retired at a friend's skateshop wall museum. Last deck I made from my 2 year business custom making vert decks.

Landyachts 36" park deck with a 19"wb with Red Tracker Aggro's and Noskoolz 65mm/92a's.

Gravity Brad Edwards with Trackers and Rainskates Tsunami's for skatepark and pools.

Sector 9 Woodcrafter(like the old Sims Taperkick) with Bennett 4" hangers, Manx, Avalons . Just fun to cruise around on and do old longboard freestyle things like G-turns, nose wheelies, walk the board, etc or just go fast on bike paths and small hills.

Old Spruce 1950's era "Sea Ski" waterski with California Slalom trucks and Abec 11 Stingers for cruising.
Where do you live?
Corvallis, Oregon- Formerly Cheyenne, Wyoming
Age:
51
Occupation?
Radiologic Technologist, Stone-Age Technology Instructor.
My top three skateboarding influences:
Tom Conroy, Brandon Goode, Dave Doty, and little kids and anyone else riding around me.
What was your first skateboard?
Unknown, I bought it at K-Mart and loved that thing, wish I had all those old setups now, lots of fond memories.
What skate mags do you read?
Concrete Wave
Are you sponsored? If so, please list your sponsors.
There's too much emphasis on being sponsored or not. I know, I'm sorta a hypocrit(sp?) since I've been on various teams, but really, skate because it hurts too much to not skate. Really, that's it. Help the little kids and newbies too.
Do you use safety gear when you skate?
Always

All Hail Howard Gordon

I just want to add to what a difference Howard Gordon made to Slalom and pavement riding in general.

First though, he was one of the first people I met during the "rebirth" of slalom at Hood River 2002 When a friend of mine talked me into going. I didn't know Howard had any connection to Turner Summer Ski (taking the helm after his friend Bobby Turner died), but he showed me a bunch of the new equipment, not just the Turner equipment,…

Yeah. I got the Scout w/o a kick. I have some PPS foam but have yet to apply it, or ride it with all the wet salt on the roads. Thanks for the advice.

paul...i got a 28" board at the awards grab at hood that scott brought up and am going to try that one for tight stuff and use your model for tight/ hybrid and tight couses that arent too tight...im going to try a smaller board in hopes of not hitting so many cones with my back foot and a faster wiggle...will see.....peace WR4
