Approach the city council positively. Leave the negative at home. In the beginning you basically are just trying to get them on your side. Tell them your goal is for your community to have a skatepark within a period of time. Tell them you guys will do anything to help them. Don't demand them to help you. Always say you are going to help them. Apply for grants, raise money through raffles, door to door donations. Form a skatepark commitee with some adults. I know there are some individuals there willing to help you. Remember, if your town does not have skatepark then your town is the skatepark.

It took a while to convince the city/city council that skateboarding was what is going on in this world and a great outlet for kids, etc. They also let me make all the decisions as far as concrete vs. pre-fab. CONCRETE ALL THE WAY

I'm from NW Ohio but I go to school in Indiana... about 1.5 feet of snow on the ground right now, kind of tough to skate :\

I haven't, but there aren't really enough hills around here to make use of it either... I have ridden a flowboard, which has the 7-wheel DCS trucks on both ends... it's unique but slow because each time a new wheel hits the ground, it eats up a huge amount of inertia

I've been longboarding about two and a half years, but I did more "normal" skateboarding for years before that. Really I just like anything that has 4 wheels and rolls :) (though I've ridden things with 2 or 6 or 14 wheels and those are ok too)
