Yeah that's Shufeldt doing color -- I was there -- he always did the on-air color.
Here he does color for the World Championship slalom:

(scroll down to:) Tony Alva: 1976 ABC Wide World of Sports

His line: "The asphalt never forgets, Bud" became something of standing joke.

Also note that Alva is basically beating Hester & Piercy using a wooden Logan Earth Ski. Amazing

I always figured Hickey went both ways (head first, and feet first).

Brad, I know there's some Signal Hill footage out there, seen a few clips. Would like to get my hands on some. Gary, I heard from Nick recently, after skatecars he got into Formula Atlantic auto racing, then aircraft design. He is currently in Texas prepping a sailboat for a circumnavigation. Yep, Hickey was feet first.

Didn't know Roger did cars. His looks like it was a feet first model?

Hey Jack,Great skatecar footage,I remember going and watching the signal hill speed runs in long beach. Is ther any footage from those races?

Yep, on CBS Sports Spectacular. I remember I had to work the day it was on, luckily Craig Vetter, my sponsor, recorded it for me. Richard Hickey is...Roger Hickey.

The "skateboarding color man" is Denis Shufeldt.

Jack, was this the actual footage from the Sports Spectacular, or was some of it local news footage? I never saw this on TV, but then this was obviously way pre-VCR. One other thing: Who was/is "Richard Hickey?"

I don't remember ever seeing this footie. Great stuff. What ever happened to Nick Leonard and that car? Would love to see what these cars could do with modern skate wheels.
