Lawtsy, Alan… Regardless of what you want to call him; his real name ‘Alex Lawton’ now sits proudly, and well deservedly on the art work of a series of skateboards. Element skateboards to be more precise. Yep, Alex Lawton is pro! What better way to celebrate than with friends, team mates and knocking the top off a few cold ones! Congratulations mate!
In the spirit of on the spot, explosive journalism; I gave Alex a call minutes after he walked in to the above ambush of stoke… Between inhaling champagne and being the happiest man on the planet here’s what he had to say…

What the hell just happened?
I just went pro!!! What the fuck? What silly bastard thought this was good idea?!! [Laughs]
Did you have any idea this was gonna go down?
Mate, I had no idea, whatsoever. I knew there was a chance something might happen down the track; I mean that’s what I’ve been working towards. But I had no idea it was gonna happen now!
How are you feeling?
I’m in shock, I’m not ready for this – I still wanna get out here and do more. But nope, the boys all got together and said “No, this shit is gonna go down now!” My missus was all over it too. On the way here, she was like “Hey, we have to go buy a bottle of Passion Pop for Jake to congratulate him on his exhibition tonight” and of course I ran with it, because this is Darwen’s night, it’s not my night…
Once again Darwen throws a curve ball and makes it about the homies and not himself…
Oh, classic Darwen style. He threw me a curve ball and now I’ve hit a home run. I’m so excited right now – I’m speechless. He’s the king of surprise. You have no idea, man. I’m literally shaking at the kneecaps. I have the best people around me, I wish my mum was here, I wish you were here, but even without that this is the best day of my life!
Melbourne is literally flooding right now, this whole thing was meant to be a surprise while you and the crew were having a nice summer picnic, but the weather had different ideas…
The weather had different ideas, but the boys didn’t and that’s all that matters.
Exactly! Well, congratulations Lawtsy! After seeing the way you’ve applied yourself over the past few years, you well and truly deserve this.

I love the fact that within 3 seconds we went from having an amateur on the cover of the mag to a pro! Lets sit back and watch the sale spike!
[Laughs] Crazy right? We did it! We did! I’m so happy, and now I get to go and have an amazing night with all my homies at an event celebrating the amazing photography of Jake Darwen… and then we’ll just take it from there.

I want to say thank you to Leigh Bolton, Cole Matthews, MF and of course everyone else at Element, Brieane, Seb and you and Moey and everyone at the Journal and of course my sweet darling Amy for keeping this whole thing a secret. Also just all the friends who have made it here to celebrate this with me. I have so much love for all you guys! My brain is truly blown!
